Late last night I was looking through books and magazines to find a fast and easy little beading project that I could complete with what’s in my bead stash. I found a pair of earrings in the 2013 June/July issue of Beadwork magazine. These “flower basket earrings” are designed by Barbara Falkowitz, co-owner of Artful Beads Studio and Workshop in Pennington, New Jersey.
I really like the beaded beads made out of SuperDuo and seed beads but I don’t particularly like the way they are suspended between the chains so I decided to add my own beadwork to turn these lovely beaded beads into a pair of earrings.
Below follows a simple picture tutorial of how I achieved this. Click on the pictures to get a better view.
Exit from a 11° in the beaded bead. I chose to have my center bicone in a position where its hole is horizontal to the beadwork.
Add 2 SuperDuo beads and pass through the 11° on the opposite side of the top center SuperDuo, the SuperDuo and the 11° you started from. (The picture now shows the backside of the beaded bead which is why the bicone is not horizontal).
Go through the 2 SuperDuos. Add 3, 11° seed beads and go through the top hole of the same SuperDuo.
Pick up 1 SuperDuo of a different color and pass through the 2nd SuperDuo. Add another 3, 11° seed beads and repeat the thread path untill you can exit from the bottom hole of the just added SuperDuo.
Pick up 3, 11° seedbeads and pass through the top hole of the SuperDuo. Pick up 3, 11° seed beads and pass through the bottom hole of the SuperDuo and the 3 seed beads on the other side.
Pick up 1, 11° seed bead, 1, 3mm bicone and 6, 11° seed beads.
Go back through the bicone and pick up 1, 11° seed bead. and go through the 3 seed beads on the opposite side of where you started the fringe.
Weave through the beadwork untill you exit from the 2nd of the 6 seedbeads. Pick up 1, 11° seed bead and pass through the 3rd seed bead. Repeat this 2 more times so that you’ll have this ⤵
Weave down through the beadwork to secure the thread and trim. Add earwires to the top loops and you’re done!
